A Small Hand
A specialist pantry for infants in need in Shenandoah County (newborn to 3 years old). Started in 2010 as a ministry of Edinburg Christian Church, A Small Hand bridges the gap between where government assistance for infants stops and community support starts. On June 1, 2017, Shenandoah Valley Lutheran Ministries "adopted" A Small Hand, committing to keeping this vital ministry operating on behalf of our community.
Who qualifies? What help is provided? Children and infants who are currently enrolled in the government supported Women, Infant, & Children (WIC) program can visit A Small Hand once a month. They will be offered a month's supply of disposable diapers and wipes, along with additional items as they are available: formula, hygiene items (shampoo, lotion, etc.). In 2010, during its first seven months of operation, A Small Hand served 280 infants and toddlers. In 2021, we distributed 269,136 diapers to 1,891 children.
